Kenneth D. Malamed

Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager (2016-2024)

Ken Malamed brought over four decades of investment industry experience to L&S Advisors, where he leveraged the time-tested methodologies and strategies which helped make him successful throughout his career. As Senior Managing Director, he was responsible for maintaining and growing the firm’s ever-expanding roster of high-net-worth, ultra-high-net-worth, and institutional clientele. He also served as a member of the firm’s Investment Committee, where his focus was on income-oriented securities.

Ken began his career in 1970 when he co-founded the Financial Management Group. Seven years later, he launched Bear Stearns Asset Management and served as President of the group. In 1985, he founded Financial Management Advisors, LLC, along with his wife Sandra Malamed. He served as President and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) until 2008, when the firm was acquired. Prior to joining L&S, Ken worked at First Western Capital Management Company as Vice-Chairman and CIO of the Century City office.

Ken held a B.S. in finance and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Ken was admitted to practice law in California.

On the personal side

Ken and his wife Sandra were married over fifty years and enjoy three children, five grandchildren, and twelve god-children.

Ken’s main hobby was work, but he also enjoyed Scrabble, bridge, the occasional golf game, and reading mysteries and legal thrillers.

Ken was an ardent supporter of the arts in Los Angeles, particularly the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl, and the film program at the University of Southern California (USC). He was a founding member of the Founders’ Group of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, a member of the Board of Overseers of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and a member of the Chancellor’s Associates of UCLA. He was also active with numerous charitable and cultural organizations worldwide, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Sinai Temple, the Huntington Library, and Griffith Observatory.
